  • Pacific Energy

  • Go Media Stadium (formerly Mt Smart Stadium), Auckland, New Zealand

  • Stadium-scale Solar PV System

Overview

Pacific Energy played a central role in the successful delivery of the high-profile solar installation at Go Media Stadium, helping transform one of New Zealand’s iconic sports venues into a symbol of sustainable energy innovation. This project is a strong reflection of Pacific Energy’s capabilities in technical leadership, project risk management, and providing independent, vendor-neutral advice.

Our involvement began at the inception stage with comprehensive modelling and feasibility analysis. These early efforts were critical to validating the technical and commercial viability of the system and optimising design for maximum energy generation.

Client Background

Auckland Stadiums, a division of Auckland Unlimited, manages Go Media Stadium on behalf of Auckland Council. As part of Auckland’s broader sustainability goals, the organisation sought to reduce emissions and operational energy costs while showcasing renewable energy leadership in high-visibility public spaces.

Project Scope and Pacific Energy’s Role

Pacific Energy's services covered the full lifecycle of early project development and oversight:

  • Feasibility & Modelling: Conducted detailed technical and economic analysis to determine system size, layout, generation potential, and financial returns.

  • Conceptual Design: Prepared the initial design concepts that informed both stakeholder engagement and the formal procurement process.

  • Tender Documentation: Developed comprehensive technical specifications and tender documents to ensure a robust and competitive selection process.

  • Tender Evaluation Support: Assisted the client during contractor evaluation and selection, ensuring alignment with technical, budgetary, and risk expectations.

  • Engineer’s Representative: Retained through delivery as the Engineer’s Representative, Pacific Energy provided oversight, advice, and decision support throughout construction.

  • Contractual and Technical Risk Management: Guided issue resolution and managed risk across all project stages to ensure seamless progress and delivery.
