About

Engineering insight. Commercial rigour. Independent advice.

Pacific Energy is a New Zealand-based consultancy specialising in energy, electrical infrastructure, and decarbonisation projects where technical, commercial, and network challenges intersect.

We have worked across renewable generation, industrial energy systems, high-voltage infrastructure, and major electricity supply decisions. We understand what the analysis has to do, what the numbers need to show, and what it actually takes to move a complex project forward.

Our work combines engineering depth with rigorous financial analysis. We build the models, stress-test the assumptions, and develop the business cases that allow clients to make well-founded decisions - and defend them.

Pacific Energy is vendor independent. Our advice is grounded in what is technically sound, commercially practical and operationally realistic.

We work with clients facing real-world challenges including constrained networks, resilience requirements, ageing infrastructure, decarbonisation mandates and complex investment decisions where getting it right matters.

Independent thinking. Practical engineering. Decisions you can defend.

About the Founder

Perry Hutchinson
Founder

With over four decades of experience in engineering, project delivery, and energy systems, I founded Pacific Energy Ltd to bring independent, technically sound, and commercially viable energy solutions to industry and government.

I hold a Master of Engineering Studies in Renewable Energy, and a Master of Business Administration (Technology Management. My background spans everything from landfill gas generation, solar PV integration, and industrial energy optimisation to infrastructure-scale project management.

I’ve worked across sectors including power generation, water and wastewater, pulp and paper, mining, and logistics, and led complex multi-stakeholder projects both in New Zealand and internationally.

What sets me apart is the ability to bridge strategy and execution — combining commercial insight with hands-on delivery. I’m committed to providing unbiased, vendor-neutral advice that helps clients manage risk, reduce emissions, and make confident investment decisions in energy and infrastructure.
